Counteracting burnout

Stress has become a widespread disease and it hits people who work in shifts particularly hard. In order to counteract this effectively, M. Jürgensen has taken up the topic as part of its health management and organized an anti-stress day in mid-March with the support of BARMER health insurance.

It started with the first presentation entitled “Mentally, vital and physically fit”. The 19 participants from production and administration were given a wide range of tips on topics such as diet, exercise and healthy sleep.

The presentations were repeatedly livened up with small exercises, such as short breathing exercises and brain jogging. In small groups, the participants were then able to work out their own “stress triggers” and become more aware of them.

The topic of healthy sleep took center stage. The participants were taken on a journey through various topics such as the four phases of sleep and sleep changes with age. By looking at the biological rhythm, it was easy to see who is more likely to be a “lark” (morning type) or an “owl” (evening type). Reducing stressors, strengthening health and maintaining sleep hygiene were just some of the many recommendations that lead to better sleep.

The day was concluded with a questionnaire that each participant filled out for themselves, which provided an accurate picture of their sleep hygiene (e.g. sleep environment, diet and exercise behavior) and sleep quality.

The anti-stress day was the first event to be held on this topic and was immediately deemed a complete success by all participants. Further events are already being planned.
