12 Choices – be active, it´s effective

Launch of our pilot project on career guidance for young people. Continue reading

In mid-June, we held the kick-off event for our 12 Choices – be active, it’s effective project together with companies from the northern district. The project is intended to give young people who have finished school but do not yet know how they want to start their careers the opportunity to find their way around and get to know different companies and training occupations.

In line with the trend towards a “FSJ” (voluntary social year) or the “gap year” abroad, which many high school graduates use to gain experience between school and university, the project gives young people the opportunity to get to know up to 12 internships in various professions in the local industry and service sector within one year. Insights into professions in the industrial/technical/trade sector, the healthcare sector or commercial/administrative professions are possible. In this way, valuable contacts can be made with potential training companies, but also non-binding experience can be gained in a wide variety of areas. This is not only important for deciding which profession to ultimately pursue, but also provides a good basis for starting your career.

An internship can last from four weeks to a maximum of three months – and those who find their vocation in the process do not have to stay in the project for the entire year, but can join directly in agreement with the company. The internship remuneration has been set at 520€. This way, there is also a financial incentive without having to pay social security.

The project idea was developed by Selina Dahlmann (Human Resources Manager Kuhn Special Steel) and Andreas Döbler (Training Manager Kuhn Special Steel), and implementation is supported by the “Wirtschaftsförderung Oberberg” (Economic Development Corporation). Many companies from the region are already participating in the planning. Interested companies from Wipperfürth, Hückeswagen and Radevormwald are cordially invited to join the project.

The pilot project is expected to start in September 2023. The contact person is Nicole Breidenbach from “Wirtschaftsförderung Oberberg”: nicole.breidenbach@obk.de.
