New centrifugal casting machine for renowned foundry in southern Germany

As a “manufactory” for special cases, kuhn.innovation specializes in automation, digitalization, machine safety and energy efficiency in demanding industries. The special feature: kuhn.innovation not only works for the companies of Kuhn Industrie Holding, but is also a competent partner for “external” companies.

In a project recently completed with a renowned foundry from southern Germany, kuhn.innovation was able to successfully demonstrate its expertise. At the end of 2023, kuhn.innovation received an order from the long-established company to build a new centrifugal casting machine. This was not the first machine development for kuhn.innovation, but it was a new workpiece portfolio for the company. In addition to the technical requirements, the particular challenge lay in the very short delivery time of just under 4 months.

kuhn.innovation met this challenge through close and agile collaboration within the team, but also through good cooperation with the customer. The basis for success was laid through close communication throughout the entire duration of the project, which made it possible to design the mechanical, electrical and control technology, as well as the overarching machine safety, in parallel. The particular strength of kuhn.innovation in developments is the unity between solid mechanical construction with the sensors and interfaces for recording process data and controlling the processes and their optimization – this came into its own here.

We are pleased that the machine is now being used successfully by our customer and that the prepared interfaces now offer many possibilities for recording process data and further optimizing the process in addition to a stable process. With the successful, on-time handover of the machine, kuhn.innovation has demonstrated the level of performance that has been achieved in a company that has only been in existence for four years.
