NORSOK certification

Thus we want to take this opportunity to briefly report on one of the main goals of our company in 2014: a NORSOK certification. Our aim here was to offer our customers the most attractive offer and the best support.

Thanks to the professional commitment of a great number of our staff and suppliers, the complex investment project involving the construction of a NORSOK-compliant heat-treatment plant is now finally complete. This brand-new, fully automated furnace system, which has been in operation since October 2014, has now been examined and approved by an external auditor as fully compliant with the corresponding NORSOK criteria. This means, among others, that highly complex components can be heat treated in a vertical position and under precisely controlled conditions. This venture represents another step forward in our efforts to deliver high-quality products and processes, while fulfilling part of our day-to-day commitment to meeting our customers’ needs. An initial cohort of customers is indeed already cooperating with Kuhn Special Steel in the starting phase of the certification process which confirms that components and materials are compliant with NORSOK criteria.

This certification originally formed the basis for all activities in the mineral-oil sector. It has meanwhile come to be increasingly demanded by companies in other sectors, such as the gas or energy industry; more and more of whom require components made to NORSOK standards, even when not strictly obligatory to the industrial sectors concerned. This is almost certainly due to the fact that NORSOK-certified components and materials fulfil the most-demanding quality specifications, and are therefore likely to offer the highest levels of reliability.

The size of our organisation, combined with wide-ranging activity in the field of research and development, allow us to implement NORSOK specifications responsibly, while reacting flexibly to the needs of the market. We are also very satisfied with our role as competent and reliable supplier of parts made of high-alloyed special steels to customers from the offshore industry and geothermal energy sector.
