Talent Company – a free space for careers guidance

Everybody is talking about the shortage of qualified talent. It is for this reason important that we at Kuhn Special Steel offer our employees solidly based vocational training. Continue reading

We are not the only ones to notice how difficult it is becoming to fill the training places on offer. Apart from demographic factors and a tendency to go for more “academic” professions, many school students are not being properly informed of the job opportunities available.

As part of our efforts to counter this phenomenon, we hold an annual Training Day event and attend various regional job fairs, where we tell school leavers about our company in a bid to make them more aware of the corresponding training opportunities in several professional fields. We also provided support last year to the Strahlemann Talent Company project at the Sophie Scholl Comprehensive School in the nearby town of Remscheid.

DSC_0340The Strahlemann Talent Company has set itself the objective, with the motto “a free space for careers guidance”, of supplying timely information and advice to school leavers regarding their chosen jobs. This creates a space in the corresponding schools for providing careers advice and helping ease school leavers into their first encounter with the world of work. The setup is different to that of a typical classroom, with the latest multimedia technology and a business-like atmosphere to give the space a professional air. School leavers can research the jobs available and obtain application forms, while the lounge area allows them to talk in a more relaxed manner to people from the companies concerned. The seminar and discussion workshop area DSC_0330provides these same companies with an ideal space to deliver information or presentations on their respective apprenticeships, etc. Every Talent Company also has a “job wall”, which allows local companies to introduce themselves and promote their training opportunities.

The Talent Company has managed to roll out its offer in twenty different places throughout Germany, including Remscheid.

IMG_3078The Talent Company at the Sophie Scholl Comprehensive School set up shop on 18th January. This marked the starting signal for a varied series of initiatives, including “work” as a specialist subject, assessment training, lectures, discussion workshops with cooperating companies, aimed at school leavers; company presentations and experience reports by existing trainees, along with many more planned activities.

We are looking forward to playing an active part in this exciting initiative, and hope to spot plenty of emerging talent.
