The material portfolio ranges from low-alloy and martensitic stainless steels to duplex grades, fully austenitic alloys, and nickel-based materials – each of which has been developed to meet specific requirements such as corrosion resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance, or mechanical strength.
For components exposed to corrosive media, corrosion-resistant stainless steels and nickel alloys are often the first choice. Nickel-copper and nickel-molybdenum alloys, for example, are suitable for demanding chemical, petrochemical and marine applications, while nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys are designed for highly aggressive environments involving acids, chlorides or elevated temperatures.
Where strength and corrosion resistance must be combined, duplex and lean-duplex materials offer an attractive balance. Kuhn’s Ultra-Lean-Duplex 1.4093 is positioned as a cost-efficient alternative for industrial valves, decanter components and chemical-industry applications, with good mechanical properties and welding characteristics.
For the pump and valve industry, application-specific materials play a key role. GL21 was developed for pump components such as mechanical seals, shaft sleeves and bushings, where both wear and corrosion resistance are required. K3816.01, a CrMn alloy, is aimed at applications exposed to corrosion and cavitation, making it suitable for demanding pump, compressor and valve assemblies.
High-temperature environments require different solutions. Heat-resistant nickel alloys such as K617 and K718 are designed for applications including combustion chambers, petrochemical equipment, heat-treatment systems and gas turbines. For large engines, centrifugally cast G-NiCr60 / K6040 is used for valve seat rings, where hardness, corrosion resistance and temperature capability are essential.
Other applications call for tailored material solutions. In aluminium processing, for example, Kuhn offers materials such as 1.2396 for high strength and dimensional stability, and 1.4317 where additional toughness and rust-free performance are required to protect metal-strip surfaces during transport.
The result is a broad materials toolbox: not one “best” alloy, but the right alloy for the right operating conditions – whether the priority is corrosion resistance, wear resistance, cavitation resistance, high-temperature strength or long service life.
