Born in Radevormwald

The road winds along the Mississippi River. Charming small towns intersect the route. Continue reading

At some point, the lights of Memphis appear, the city made immortal by Elvis Presley. The road continues south, past small towns with tin-roofed wooden houses reflected in the river, deeper into the forests of Mississippi and Louisiana to New Orleans, “The Big Easy”. A trip to the south of the USA, right through the heart of the country, is an unforgettable experience, where you will always witness a piece of Kuhn Special Steel.

Because centrifugally cast components from Kuhn Special Steel are in demand all over the world, including in the USA. They are used, for example, in the manufacture of a typical American product: the metal roof. In Germany, galvanized metal roofs are mainly found on industrial and commercial buildings, whilst in the USA they have been used by homeowners for decades, mostly in the look of roof tiles and combined with a wooden house. The buildings are quickly erected and lightweight. Sometimes they are even taken down and put up again elsewhere. Americans love things to be practical.

Protected at almost 100 per cent humidity

In order to protect the roof from wind and weather, the steel roofs are galvanized; this gives them the necessary corrosion protection. In July, for example, the humidity in New Orleans can reach a figure of up to 98 per cent. For galvanizing, the American strip galvanizing plants also rely on sink rollers, stabilizing and correction rollers made by Kuhn Special Steel. They are particularly corrosion-resistant and low-wear. This extends the maintenance intervals and therefore saves costs. The metal roofs are becoming cheaper, which the Americans also love.

The next time you travel through the USA, look out for the many metal roofs. There you will see a bit of Radevormwald.
