A Career Start with Prospects
With the start of the new training year, we expect to welcome a total of 19 new trainees at our locations in Radevormwald and Sörup. They can now look forward to an educational experience with promising prospects for their professional future. Continue reading
Training began on September 1 at both locations. Nine young people started in Radevormwald, and ten in Sörup. Overall, there is once again a good mix of business and trade apprentices this year, who are now embarking on their careers.
“It’s important to me that our new apprentices not only learn technical skills but also grow personally during their training. Ultimately, we want to train young people who truly master their trade, take on responsibility, and are happy to stay with us. If we succeed in this, both sides stand to gain a lot,” emphasizes Grischa Hopmeier, industrial-technical training manager at Kuhn Edelstahl.
It is particularly encouraging that, at both locations, several young men and women alike have shown enthusiasm for the apprenticeship program in machining – a field in which it is becoming increasingly difficult to fill open positions and which is immensely important in the value chain of both companies.
HR in Sörup are also pleased that they were able to fill all their apprenticeship positions. “We were literally able to secure two apprentices at the very last minute,” says Svenja Böhmert, commercial training manager at M. Jürgensen, expressing her delight that they were able to fill the positions this year. In Radevormwald, however, three positions in machining, foundry, and logistics remain unfilled so far.
For the new apprentices at both locations, the first few days were primarily focused on settling in and getting to know each other. In Sörup, after a welcome and a tour of the facility, there was a group lunch with the senior apprentices, before they began working in their respective departments starting on day two. In Radevormwald, the first day’s schedule for the newcomers included a group barbecue with the older apprentices, who serve as mentors for the new recruits.
On the second and third days, all the Radevormwald apprentices went on a group field trip that included, among others, team plays at Seaside Beach Essen and a digital scavenger hunt. “We kicked off this year’s training program right at the start with our team event so that our new trainees could connect with the older ones from the very beginning and learn to work together as a team,” explains Gesa Richter, commercial training coordinator at Kuhn Edelstahl.
In Sörup, the apprentices can still look forward to the annual team event. A big get-together is expected to take place there in late September. Of course, we’re not revealing just yet what’s in store.
“We wish all our new apprentices a great start to their professional careers and hope they’ll have not only an educational but also a wonderful time with us,” emphasizes Benno Christophersen, the technical training manager at M. Jürgensen, referring to both locations.
