Working in a family-run SME
Many applicants have reservations about medium-sized family businesses – a challenge that we are actively addressing. We are using an innovative campaign to dispel these prejudices and show why SMEs are an attractive employer. Continue reading
Recruitment is an increasing challenge, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is not uncommon for potential applicants to give preference to supposedly more secure and better-paid offers from the public sector or large companies over employment in SMEs. “Too poorly paid”, “too few opportunities for advancement”, “too little innovative strength”, “too insecure a job” are just some of the arguments that are often put forward against employment in SMEs.
A fact that is not only annoying for us as a medium-sized company with high personnel requirements – in terms of turnover – but also ignores reality. SMEs are the backbone of the German economy: they make up 99% of all companies, employ more than half of all employees and contribute over 50% to the net value added of our economy.*
Not only these facts show the importance of SMEs, but also the long-term strategy and orientation, the sustainable development opportunities, the ideas that make many SMEs, like us, world market leaders, the way they interact with each other and many other reasons speak in favor of SMEs.
That’s why we launched a social media campaign a few weeks ago in which we are trying to dispel typical clichés and prejudices about SMEs, most of which are owner-managed. With bold imagery, simple messages and the fresh look of our employer brand, we want to break with the stereotypes of SMEs and give a different perspective on working in companies like ours. What are the salary structures and career prospects really like in SMEs, what are the clear advantages over large companies and corporations, which are usually managed externally, and why can it be a good decision to look for new career prospects in SMEs?
We address all these numerous aspects of working in SMEs and give an impression of how things really work, e.g. in a post on the topic of career opportunities:
We hope to break the ice a little and motivate more people to apply to us. Only time will tell whether we will be successful, but we are definitely convinced that we need to find new and creative ways to draw attention to ourselves and perhaps dispel existing reservations in the struggle to recruit good people. With this in mind, we cordially invite you to follow our campaign and form your own opinion. You can find us on:
